James Victor Carisella II
January 24, 1988 - December 23, 2007

James V. Carisella, II a lifetime resident of Greater New Orleans, athlete, scholar and community servant, departed this life on Sunday, December 23, 2007 at the age of 19. Jay was a source of pride and happiness to his parents, James and Dianne Carisella, both formerly of Wakefield, Massachusetts, and was a strong and loving older brother to Olivia Dianne Carisella. Jay was a sophomore at Northeastern University in Boston, Massachusetts, and a 2006 graduate of Metairie Park Country Day School where he was known for his outstanding performances and leadership on the cross-country team, soccer team, and track team. He held track and field records at Country Day, and was among the top three athletes in Louisiana Class 1-A in the Mile. After Hurricane Katrina, he attended Baylor School in Chattanooga, Tennessee his senior year and received diplomas from both Baylor and Country Day. Jay will be remembered for his kind heart and his generous spirit. He was a natural leader, and a loyal friend, who devoted much of his time to community service, both in Louisiana, where he volunteered with the Lighthouse for the Blind, and in Santa Fe, New Mexico, where he was active in building housing for needy Native American families. In his brief life, he made a major contribution to the communities where he lived and worked. Jay is survived by his parents and sister, by his grandmothers, Virginia Upton Carisella of Peabody, Massachusetts, and Edith Gallagher of Wakefield, Massachusetts, aunts, uncles, cousins, and countless friends.
